Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten or TK is for students that miss the kindergarten age cutoff of turning five before September 2. The students in this class turn five between September 1 and January 31. This program combines the preschool learning outcomes and the kindergarten standards. Students have an understanding of the alphabet, Upper case and lower case letters, shapes, sizes, colors and are exploring the world around them. Students work out of a math book and a language arts book. In addition, they receive a weekly homework packet. They are responsible for caring for their own materials (books, pencils, scissors, glue, etc.) and are beginning to master simple math problems, writing sight words and increasing their knowledge in all areas. Science is incorporated into the classroom through weekly cooking projects, the use of standard and non-standard measurement, gathering information to test ideas. Technology supports hands on learning. Through play they learn cooperation, conflict management with little to no teacher intervention, they learn to make choices and to follow through. Students work both independently and in small groups on both self-directed and teacher directed activities. Bible songs and chapel round out our program.
